There are a wide range of styles of furniture in each country. Some of these trends and styles spread into three major market of antique furniture, namely United States, France and England. American Antique Furniture Styles include William and Mary (1690-1725), Queen Anne (1725-1750), Chippendale (1750-1780), Federal (1790-1815), Classical (1815-1825), Empire (1825-1845), and Country and Shaker (1690-1900).
French Antique Furniture Styles are mainly Louis XIV (14) (1643-1715), Louis XV (15) (1723-1774) and Louis Philippe (1830-1848). English Antique Furniture Styles are Georgian (1714-1812), Regency (1812-1830) , Victorian (1837-1901) and Edwardian (1901-1910).
The Queen Anne furniture design was named for Queen Anne Stuart, daughter of King James II. Queen Anne style Furniture features smooth curve lines and claw foot legs, which make the whole furniture elegant and quite dignified. Victorian style furniture features luxuriously patterned tall back which draping around the sides, and legs of claw foot design.

Many of today’s new traditional furniture designs are inspired by those classic traditional designs. One example is Amber Antique with Gold Tipping Microfiber Chenille Sofa HD-703-S.

Pasadena Rose Parade in 2013 – Lafayette High School Band “Pride of the Bluegrass”

Lafayette Band “Pride of the Bluegrass” from Lexington, KY is a band I have liked for years. One of my friends recommended it to me, and then I generally developed a love for it and would watch their performance on the internet from time to time.

When I saw them perform in the Pasadena Rose in Pasadena, I was very excited. The matching Lafayette Band “Pride of the Bluegrass” in the parade was composed of 4 drum majors, 70 brass, 30 percussion, 90 woodwinds, 4 banner carriers, and 40 color guards, 230 in total. They were in white pants and shoes, blue short coats with red colors, blue hat with white plumes, and white sashes. Really an impressing uniform for performing! Like always, I enjoyed the performance of “Pride of the Bluegrass”.
The Lafayette High School Band has existed since the opening of the school in 1939 with music excellence of over 70 years. For the members of the Lafayette Band, band is their co-curricular, year round activity. In addition to the marching band, there are also students participating in concert bands, jazz band, and community orchestras. The Lafayette Band has received over 60 championships from state, regional and national competitions in the last decade. I’m proud of their excellence.

Pasadena Rose Parade in 2013 – Performance from Wonderful Indonesia

The dances and float from Indonesia represents its abundant and diverse cultures, which impressed me in the 124th Rose Parade in Pasadena.

The float “Wonderful Indonesia” by Ministry of Tourism & Creative Economies, Republic of Indonesia, built by Fiesta Parade Floats, won President’s Trophy for most effective use and presentation of flowers. It consists of the main float sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economies, and a satellite float featuring the city of Solo, called “The Spirit of Java”. It is Indonesia’s second consecutive entry in Rose Parade after its 15 year’s hiatus.

Leading and flanking the satellite float in the front are 20 dancers gaily clad in astonishing and extravagant costumes and perform to their traditional music performed live by musician. There are hundreds of ethnic cultures in Indonesia, with their own unique dance, music and art techniques. These dancers represent this vibrant diversity in the Rose Parade. Some dances were in costumes of round fans, some in feather-patterned costumes and more in flower-patterned costumes, making themselves the heart of a flower.

The dances, music and costumes are all part of the annual Solo Batik Carnival. This event is held throughout the City of Solo with about 400 dancers with costumes portrayed design and reinterpretation of the art of Batik. Batik is a traditional form of clothing using a delicate process of dyeing and wax resist drawing on the fabric. These costumes in Parade represent a new wave of design while preserving the traditional art of Batik, which is unique to Central Java.

The front satellite float depicts a Gamelan orchestra, a traditional instrument from Central Java. The float also features floral “stupas” with round domes, reminds the viewers of the world’s greatest Buddhist monument at Borobudur near the City of Solo in central Java. The live gamelan performers in traditional costumes sat in the surrounding colorful floral designs.

Pasadena Rose Parade in 2013 – Vibrant Matching from The LAUSD All District High School Honor Band

I have always loved the LAUSD band for its extraordinary vibrancy. And I didn’t miss its performance in Rose Parade in the New Year of 2013.
The LAUSD All District High School Honor Band performed in its own distinctive style in the parade. They were in West Point-style uniforms of red, white and blue, and wore white shakos/berets and white foot-gear. The team marched at a highly “energetic” speed, dancing and shouting “LAUSD” and “L A”, leaving the crowd wanting to see and hear more! The band made a marvelous sound impact with only 2 kinds of instruments: brass and percussion, which also added to the distinction of band’s music in the Parade.
The LAUSD All District High School Honor Band are known to perform with smaller groups of around 20-25 members for special events around the city of Los Angeles. While the band in 124th Rose Parade is a big band composed of 13 banner carriers, 5 leaders, 4 drum majors, 270 brass, 50 percussion, and 25 flag bearers.
The All District High School Honor Band enjoys the special role it plays in major nation’s events. It has performed at high profile venues and events, such as Disneyland, the Greek Theater, Super Bowls, the Coca Cola Centennial Parade, World Series games and more.

Pasadena Rose Parade in 2013 – “Sweepstakes Trophy” for Most Beautiful Entry: Dole’s Float “Dream of Paradise”

The float I love most in Pasadena’s Rose Parade of 2013 is the “Dream of Paradise” float from fruit and vegetable producer Dole, built by Fiesta Parade Floats c/o Beverly Stansbury. The “Dreaming of Paradise” float scooped up the parade’s grand “Sweepstakes” prize for the most beautiful floral presentation and design.
This float portrayed the beauty and bounty of the nature in the tropical paradise of Latin America. It is also a float which pleased all our senses: sight, smell, sound, touch and taste.
The float came with vibrant colors and textures from sun-drenched fruits and tropical flowers. Two oversized beautiful parrots perched on the lofty branches of orchids, blending with the green foliage and colorful tropical flowers. Fresh fruits, including bananas, pineapples, mangoes, papayas, peaches, strawberries and blueberries, lined at the both sides of the floral float, making it more attractive.
At the rear of the float, stands a 26-foot imitated erupting volcano, smoke and real fire shooting about 20 feet into the sky. Other whimsical features on the float like prowling leopards, frolicking monkeys, fluttering butterflies, dragonflies and three life-like waterfalls, with parrots, volcano, flowers and fruits, all help create a live tropical paradise of Latin America.
To complete the whole paradise, twelve performers in beautiful traditional costumes from “Alma Tica Fold-Dance Group”, danced to Costa Rican folk music alongside the floral float in the Rose Parade.
